About the Sports Centre
The Sports Centre is open seven days a week and is situated on the Peel Park Campus, adjacent to University House.
5 State of the Art Fitness Suites
All 5 of our Fitness Suites are incorporated within our 'Gym Choice' and 'All Inclusive' Membership options. Recent refurbishments have seen some tremendous additions to our Upper and Lower Body Strength Rooms, which include 2 Commercial Multi-Press Squat Racks with Olympic lifting Platforms (with Bumper Plates) which have completely transformed the areas visually, whilst also creating a multitude of additional workout options, for those members who regulary utilise those areas.
Our Resistance and Cardio Rooms contain the latest in Matrix Fitness (Plate Loaded) resistance and CV equipment, which are fully equipped with the latest Digital Interfaces and Viafit online accounts (with 3rd party activity tracking devices such as MyFitness Pal) with our gym facilities providing tremendous value, as a key element of our membership offer.
In addition, we now have a 5th Fitness Suite, named the Functional Training Suite, which provides our members with a unique industrial 'Gym' setting. The FTS, which contains the latest in Matrix Fitness MX4 Equipment, presenting the opportunity for new Matrix MX4 Group Training. The MX4 Group Training Sessions will use 4 weeks of undulating periodisation, ensuring workouts are holistic in nature, and will look to address the four pillars of fitness – endurance, strength, power and cardio, which is a tremendous addition to our Fitness Class Programming. Our Personal Programmes also add a unique value to our Gym and All Inclusive membership option's, our Qualified Fitness Instructor's provide our members with a stuctured exercise platform around desired personal goals. Swimming pool, sauna and spa
The Sports Centre boasts some excellent, recently refurbished facilities; including a 25 metre, 5 lane, deck level swimming pool complete with sauna and spa. Sessions at the pool include general swim sessions, SwimFit and swimming lessons. Students’ Union activity groups also use the pool exclusively for canoeing, scuba diving and swimming. Children under the age of sixteen may only use the pool when accompanied by an adult with a maximum of two children to one adult.
Our Fitness Studio is a perfect setting for our Fitness Class Activities, which offer tremendous value to our Sport Memberships.
The Class Timetable provides our Students with an excellent platform to get active and meet new people. Within the Programme, we offer an exciting range of exercise classes including Dance Barre, Zumba, Metafit, Studio Cycling, Salfit, Abs Blast, Body Conditioning, Yoga and Pilates, amongst many others. Our 2018 Programme will see some exciting new additions to our existing provision, which will offer a variety of unique and inclusive pathways into physical activity for our Students.
Our large multi-use sports hall has six badminton courts, two basketball courts, five-a-side football pitch, netball court, handball court and Futsal pitch. Our Sports Hall plays host to many of our Students Union Training and Activity Sessions during a term time evening, in addition to our BUCS Fixtures and annual University 'Varsity.'
Our 2 Squash Courts were refurbished last year, and are complete with a viewing area. Squash remains a popular element of our 'Choice and 'All Inclusive' Sports Centre Membership options. In addition, our Squash Courts remain a key faciliator of our Students Union Squash Club training (and BUCS Fixtures.)
There is also the option of particpating within a semi competitive (and more recreational activity setting) via the Students Union's Give Sport a Go Programme.
